Wind Horse Studio The artwork of Sarah Hamilton Sumi-e & Sculpture
|
|
Wind Horse Studio is the home of the artwork of Sarah Hamilton. This site features a variety of sumi-e and sculpture, much of which celebrates the horse in art. Please enjoy a tour of the galleries -- there are many pictures of the work featured here, so please be patient while the pages load. Click on any image for a larger view. Sumi-e is a traditional Asian art form. The name
literally translates to mean "black ink painting." It is an art form which
stresses capturing the essence of the subject and its harmony with the natural
world. The goal of the art is to find a balance between form, line and
space. Traditional sumi-e subject matter includes bamboo, flowers, animals
and nature. This type of work is featured in the Traditional Sumi-e
Gallery. Horses have always been a subject of the art of China and
Japan. The equestrian sum The Sculpture Gallery features equestrian sculpture that uses wire and natural materials to capture the movement and spirit of the horse. Like sumi-e, it creates the impression of the horse with line and negative space. All work is hand-made, original art, so each piece is unique and will vary slightly. Special orders and commissions can be arranged through the artist. New subjects and compositions are constantly being added as well. PLEASE SEE THE GALLERIES FOR MANY NEW WORKS, INCLUDING FRIESIANS, DRESSAGE HORSES, HUNTERS, JUMPERS AND EVENTERS. Artwork on this site is featured in the Spring 2004 Issue of EQUINE VISION MAGAZINE. Wind horse -- in Tibetan mythology, the wind horse carries prayers and desires to the Universe.
